Lada has introduced the new Granta TC1, which will compete in this year's World Touring Car Championship (WTCC)

Lada Granta TC1

Lada entered the WTCC competition way back in 2008, and is therefore no stranger to it. The Russian carmaker has pulled the wraps off its latest 2014 WTCC contender, Lada Granta TC1. This model will be driven by Rob Huff, winner of the 2012 WTCC, alongwith Mikhail Kozlovskiy and James Thompson as co-drivers.

The Lada Granta TC1 weighs 1,150kg, and according to the carmaker, is actually 50kg lesser than its predecessor, the Granta 1600T. The racer adopts a visibly lower, wider and more aggressive appearance for the 2014 season, to be in-line with the new sporting regulations made by the WTCC. The new car sits on 18-inch alloy wheels and gets revised wheel arches, alongwith updated aerodynamics including a different rear wing.

A four-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine runs under the hood of the Lada Granta TC1. It produces a maximum power of 385PS. Lada Granta TC1 will face stiff competition from the Citroen C-Elysée and Honda Civic in the 2014 WTCC season. Lada has already announced an all-new car for the next season of WTCC.

The WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) is an international touring championship sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship first incepted in 1987 and continues to garner popularity ever since.
