After driving the entire 2014 season in the premier class of the World Rally Championship, Robert Kubica has declared that he will continue to drive a Ford Fiesta RS WRC in 2015 too. The Polish driver will continue his campaign with Maciek Szczepaniak as co-driver. Kubica’s team will be backed by Polish oil company LOTOS.
Sixth place was the best finish for Kubica in Argentina and the Formula 1 Grand Prix winner could only score 14 points in 2014. He had been considering a shift to circuit racing, but later decided to continue his run in the World Rally Championship.
“It took me a long time to make this decision, but there was no pressure at all. I wanted to be sure about it and I did not want to rush. There will be some more new things to come, but I will announce them later,” he said.
A statement from Kubica’s Team management read, “Kubica and Szczepaniak will approach this challenge with humility, aiming for consistency and gaining further experience – which will be crucial to confirm their abilities, already shown in their first full season in the most demanding rallies in the world.”
Kubica and Szczepaniak will drive all the 13 rounds of the 2015 WRC season with the first one being Rally Monte Carlo from 22-25 January, 2015. Aside from Kubica, Hayden Paddon has inked a new deal with Hyundai Motorsport according to which he will compete in at least nine of the 13 rounds in 2015. Paddon’s season will start with the second round in Sweden from 12-15 February.
