Valentino Rossi and MotoGP fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the charismatic Italian rider has extended his contract with Yamaha Racing by two more years. At the start of the 2014 season, Rossi had announced that he will take a final call on his MotoGP career based on his performance in the initial six races after having disappointing outings in the past few years. As part of the new contract, Rossi will be associated with Yamaha till the end of the 2016 season.
Speaking about the announcement, Rossi said, “I am very happy to announce that I have signed a new contract with Yamaha to continue together in MotoGP for the next two years. It's great because this was my target; I wanted to continue, I am feeling good and I'm motivated to keep giving my best. I am very happy that I can keep riding my YZR-M1, that has been my love for so many years and will still be my love this year and the following two seasons. A big 'Thank You' to everybody, I will try to keep giving the maximum to arrive in front and make good races. Enjoy!”
Although Rossi hasn’t been successful in a winning a single race this season as the dominant Marc Marquez has won the initial eight rounds of the year on the trot. What prompted this decision will be his race pace as he has been the most consistent rival for the Repsol Honda rider in the 2014 season and he is currently second in the championship standings. Another factor that influenced his extension is the fact that he is now the n.1 rider for Yamaha as he has outpaced team-mate Jorge Lorenzo comfortably so far.
