Red carpets rolled, flashy cameras clicked and even a symbolic flame was lit as Bollywood actor John Abraham and legendary world rally car champion Hannu Mikkola cut the red ribbon to the Mumbai International Motor Show (MIMS) 2013 here at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex.
The presence of the hugely popular Bollywood actor and one iconic figure from the glory days of the world’s most challenging rally sport courtesy Audi India couldn’t have better timed to kick start the opening day of country’s second largest automotive convention now in its third successful edition. Incidentally, Mikkola whose rally career spanned three decades worked closely with Audi in developing the early Quattro four wheel drive system, which was used for the very first time in a rally car driven by him.
After taking a quick tour of the pavilions showcasing all the major auto brands participating in this year’s show, John Abraham and Hannu Mikkola paid a special visit to the ZigWheels stall where they had a chance to personally interact with the team.
A separate ZigWheels MIMS special magazine was also launched by the duo, which is now available to all visitors from the 24th – 27th of January and features our handpicked industry updates and car and motorcycle reviews from the year gone by. The official inauguration of the event was also conducted in the form of a ‘diya’ (lamp) lighting ceremony.
Talking about his passion for automobiles and motorcycles at the MIMS this year, actor John Abraham said, "Two things that I would like to do before leaving this word is to take part in the BAJA 1000 off-road race in Switzerland and second ride at the Isle of Man TT, which you could say is a Mecca for any genuine bike sport enthusiast like myself."
With the doors now open to the 3rd edition of the Mumbai International Motor Show, here is your chance to get to witness, interact and revel in all that’s worth talking about in the country’s automotive arena all under one roof. In the coming days you can look forward to seeing your favourite car and bike brands showcasing their complete product line up.
Also don’t miss some special performances by the Bajaj GhostRyders stunt team and the off-roading action at the Polaris ATV track. Special booths for aftermarket car and bike accessories and vehicle custom paint jobs and stickering are among other attractions this year.
