Plans expansion of the BharatBenz sales network from 80 to 100 dealers in India

Daimler Trucks aims at continued success in 2015

Daimler Trucks has achieved its goals yet again in 2014. The company registered an 18 per cent increase in its earnings before interest and taxes in the last fiscal, while its return on sales rose by 6.4 per cent in the same year.

Commenting on this achievement, Wolfgang Bernhard, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG for Trucks and Buses, said, “In 2014, we achieved what we promised – despite partly weaker markets - and improved our results significantly. In 2015, we plan to stay on this successful course and again increase our unit sales and operating profit. We will thus continue to come closer to our long-term objectives step by step."

In the NAFTA region, the company expects a 10 per cent growth for the overall truck market in the medium-duty and heavy-duty segments (Class 6 to 8), whereas in Europe, Daimler expects the sales to dip in 2015. According to the company, a slight market drop is indicated for Japan, while the weak period in Brazil is expected to persist. A decrease in the range of 10 per cent is expected when compared with the previous year’s sales.

Daimler Trucks expects positive sales growth in Asia. In Indonesia, one of the main markets of Fuso trucks in Asia, the company expects a recovery in unit sales. The automaker has further plans of expanding the BharatBenz sales network from 80 to 100 dealers in India. The company expects additional momentum to its sales in 2015 after the ‘Made in Chennai’ Fuso trucks are exported to Latin America and the Middle East. Daimler expects the growth dynamics in Japan to be slacken off perceptibly.

The situation in Western Europe and Latin America remains challenging, according to the automaker. However, Daimler Trucks expects that it will be able to maintain its position in the Western European market due to its fuel-saving products, a high customer acceptance and a flexible production network. The lack of economic growth and more unfavorable financing conditions in Brazil should weigh on market demand and also on the sales of its trucks, according to Daimler.

The company states that it is positive about its sales growth in 2015 due to its sales in the fourth quarter last year which jumped by 45 per cent year-on-year to around 1,73,000 units. This has created a solid basis for the desired sales growth in the current cycle.
