Rayo Racing’s Ameya Bafna led the way in Round 3 of the 9th JK Tyre Rotax Max Karting Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore
Senior Max
Ameya Bafna dominated the weekend, from the qualifying session on Saturday to the race on Sunday. He took pole position in qualifying and followed it with a second place in heat 1 and top spot in heat 2, which gave him pole position for the race. In the race itself, Bafna proved untouchable, claiming first places in the pre-final as well as the final. He finished 2.249 seconds ahead of veteran Meco Racing’s Vishnu Prasad in the pre-final and took the chequered flag 2.302 seconds ahead of defending champion Chittesh Mandody of Mohite’s Racing in the final.
Vishnu Prasad meanwhile had a forgettable outing, with a 10th place in heat 2, after a DNF in heat 1. Vishnu’s luck didn’t change much on race day either, the Chennai lad being disqualified in the pre-final after finishing second and having a second DNF in the final. Chittesh Mandody took second place while Raj Ganatra of Rayo Racing claimed the last podium spot in the final.
Junior Max
Kush Maini of Maini Racing put in a remarkable performance with first places in qualifying, and both the heats. Starting from pole on race day, Kush drove splendidly to be set for a win in the pre-final but was forced to retire with an engine seizure a few corners before the finish.
Krishnaraj Mahadik of Mohite’s Racing benefited from Maini’s retirement to finish first, followed by Dhruv Mohite also of Mohite’s Racing and Arya Gandhi of Rayo Racing. Krishnaraj won the final by a comfortable margin of 3.497 seconds, followed by Kush Maini and Arya Gandhi. It was Kush however whose performance was the highlight in this class.
Micro Max
Pradyumna V Danigond of Mohite’s Racing finished in first place, while Mira Kirit Erda of Maini Racing and Phaneesh H B of Mohite’s Racing took second and third places respectively. The trio proved to be the most consistent over the race weekend.
Pradyumn claimed the top spots in qualifying and heat 1 while Phaneesh HB beat Pradyumn by a 0.039 second margin in heat 2, while Baroda girl Mira claimed third places in qualifying, pre-final and final.
With two rounds to go, it is still anyone’s championship to win. Round 4 will be held at the Lahiri Kart Centre, Hyderabad on August 18 and 19, 2012.
