Team Maini Racing dominates the second round of the 2012 JK Tyre - FMSCI National Rotax Max Karting Championship held at the exotic Lahiri Resorts in the outskirts of Hyderabad

Micro Max

In the Micro Max category, it was Team Maini Racing’s Mira Erda (18), only girl in the championship, who took the top honours despite starting from the back of the grid due to a penalty entrusted upon her during pre-final due to a technical infringement. Starting from last on the grid, Mira was quick to move and join the front runners by the first lap itself and on the following lap she passed the race leader and key rival Pradyumn Danigod of Mohite’s Racing to take the lead. Thereafter the feisty young girl showed incredible race craft to win the race with a whooping margin over the rest of the pack and setting the best lap time of 33.594 seconds. Pradyumn had to be satisfied with second place while his team-mate HB Phaneesh completed the podium in the Micro Max category.

Junior Max

In the most hotly contested class in the national karting championship, the Junior category, Team Maini Racing once again emerged at the top with its star driver Kush Maini (2) bagging the win after a hard fought battle with Nayan Chatterjee of Team Rayo Racing. Both youngsters exchanged lead on several occasions of the 22 lap race with Nayan giving Kush a good tussle for most part of the race. However, it was Kush who emerged victorious after a last corner pass on the last lap handed him the lead from Nayan to take the win while Nayan was forced to finish in second place, both the drivers separated merely by 0.098 seconds. Nayan’s team-mate, Arya Gandhi who began the race from the back of the grid showed exceptional racing skill to finish on the podium in third place.

Senior Max

The premier class of the national karting championship, Senior Max witnessed defending champion Chittesh Mandody (5) of Team Mohite’s Racing putting up a phenomenal display of karting skill as he wholly dominated the race from start to end to take home yet another brilliant victory. Second place was clinched by Team Rayo Racing’s Anshuan Chatterjee (61) who dstayed close on the heels of Chittesh until he got caught behind a back marker and lost precious time eventually finishing the race in second. Highlight though came from Team Rayo Racing driver Ameya Bafna (60) from Mumbai, who having suffered a DNF during pre-final was forced to start behind the Senior grid in 17th place but his composed driving and implausible speed saw him move up the order passing 14 drivers to take the final spot on the podium. His form and pace was visible as he also recorded the best lap time of 30:039 seconds.
