Jaguar has officially launched a new flagship sportscar, the F-Type Project 7 in production guise a few days ahead of its Goodwood 2014 showcase. Jaguar had earlier showcased a concept version of the F-Type Project 7 at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and other shows around the world. The ‘Seven’ in the Project 7 signifies Jaguar’s pride at having won Le Mans seven times since the early 1950s in cars like the C Type and D Type.

The Jaguar F-Type Project 7 pays tribute the Jaguar D-Type with styling touches and inspiration in its design both on the exterior and on the interior. Only 250 examples of the T-Type Project 7 are expected to be built with prices set at about Rs 1.38 Crore (before taxes, shipping and registration). The production versions will be hand-built by the new Special Operations wing of Jaguar Land Rover and will be headed by Paul Newsome, an ex-Williams Formula 1 engineer and chief of the C-X75 hybrid supercar project.

The Jaguar F-Type Project 7 will go from 0-100kmph in only 3.8 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 300kmph. Compared to the regular F-Type roadster, the Project 7 has a new front bumper and splitter, a cut down windscreen, a rear cowl fairing with an incorporated roll over bar, new side skirts and of course, a new rear spoiler. The electronically controlled sports exhaust has received a ceramic coating so that the heat generated from the exhaust does damage the new carbon splitter.

The 5.0-litre V8 engine mated to a supercharger now produces 560PS of peak power at 6500rpm and 680Nm or peak torque at 2500-5500rpm. The huge amount of power is put down on the road through a set of 20-inch wheels mated to a electronic limited slip differential and an eight-speed, dual clutch, ZF gearbox. Jaguar claims that the extensive Aero modifications on the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 develops 177 per cent more downforce as compared to the standard car, mainly due to its large wing on the boot lid and the front bumper splitter.
