Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and the Central Government have jointly introduced a new scheme of fitting CNG kits on two-wheelers. After approval from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), 50 units of the Honda Activa have been equipped with these CNG kits. The new scheme will also receive support from GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) and Indraprastha Gas Limited.
It is a pilot project scheme that focuses on minimising the emission of polluting gases. The project has been started by Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of petroleum and natural gas, and Prakash Javadekar, minister of environment, forest and climate change. On June 23, both these ministers flagged off 10 units of such CNG-fitted Honda Activas at a function organised by Indraprastha Gas Limited’s CNG refilling station in the CGO complex area in New Delhi.
50 units of the Honda Activa ridden for home delivery by a popular pizza chain in Delhi, were retrofitted with these kits. Although the price and the installation charges are not confirmed yet, it is expected to be reasonable and affordable. According to the idle vehicle emission test reports, CNG-fitted two-wheelers have been reported to emit 75 per cent and 20 per cent less amounts of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, respectively.
