Indian Motorcycle introduced the new Springfield motorcycle in the US market. We can expect the new motorcycle to be launched in the Indian market by late 2016

Indian Springfield

Indian Motorcycle unveiled the new Springfield cruiser motorcycle. The new bike has been named after the birthplace of Indian Motorcycle which is also the oldest American bikemaker in existence. The styling of the Indian Springfield is similar to the Chief Classic with the only visual differentiation being the hard panniers as opposed to the leather unit as seen on the former. Also instead of the electronically adjustable windscreen as seen on the Chieftain or the Roadmaster, the new Springfield sports a quick-detach clear windshield. The panniers and the windscreen can be easily unclipped which means the bike can be converted from a bagger to a cruiser effortlessly depending on requirement of the rider.

Powering the new Indian Springfield is the same famed Thunder Stroke motor as seen on its siblings. The 1,811cc V-twin motor develops 102Nm of peak torque that arrives just at 2,600rpm. The twin-cylinder powerplant is mated to a 6-speed transmission. Indian engineers have also changed the rake angle of the Springfield to 25-degree with just 133mm of trail which has made the new cruiser motorcycle nimbler than its siblings. Also the chassis of the motorcycle has been stiffened further to carry heavier loads, 242kg of passenger and luggage to be precise.

Other goodies on the Indian Springfield include adjustable passenger footboards, ABS, tyre pressure monitors, cruise control along with front and rear crash bars are all standard. The Indian Springfield has been priced at Rs 14.76 lakh in the US market. We can expect the Indian Springfield to head to our shores by late 2016 with an expected pricing of around Rs 30 lakh.
