2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class facelift revealed

Mercedes-Benz has announced that its 2015 CLS-Class facelift will make its debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, in the last week of June. The main highlight of the moderately revised CLS-Class is the addition of Multibeam LED headlights equipped with 24 individually-controlled LEDs automatically adjusted 100 times per second by using a camera and four control units.

The updated second-generation CLS-Class gains a moderately updated front fascia that falls in line with Mercedes' latest design language. The modifications include a revised single-slat radiator grille inspired by the CLA-Class, a more aggressive bumper and new headlights that incorporate Active Multibeam II technology. The CLS' rear end receives a slightly revamped bumper and refreshed tail lamps. A selection of new alloy wheel designs and exterior colors round out the list of exterior modifications.

The MultiBeam LED headlights on the new CLS-Class are made up of 24 individual LEDs that are illuminated individually to provide drivers with the clearest vision, without causing glare or blinding for oncoming drivers.

The most noteworthy modification in the interior of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is the updated Command infotainment system

Similar to the LED headlights in the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi’s Matrix LED setup, the right and left headlights work independently, as do all 24 LED lights which can be on or off according to conditions, with a camera on the windscreen providing information to the system up to 100 times a second.

Inside, the most noteworthy modification is the updated Command infotainment system which features an eight-inch screen sitting atop the wood grain dashboard. Elsewhere, the interior of the facelifted CLS adopts a new three-spoke steering wheel and some redesigned centre console controls.

As far as the engine lineup goes, the CLS 350 CDi is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine which will produce 258PS of power and 620Nm of torque. The CLS 350 will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine which will produce 306PS of power and 370Nm of torque. The Mercedes CLS S63 AMG will be powered by a 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine which will generate 557PS of power and a peak torque of 720 Nm.

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz CLS - Class is expected to go on sale in Europe next year.
