Set to compete against the Volkswagen Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra, the new Hyundai Veloster Turbo will satisfy performance enthusiasts without inflating fuel bills

Keeping in mind the driving preferences of the UK drivers, Hyundai has come up with a new version of its 1+2 door Veloster sports coupe to be unveiled at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show.

Delivering the desired low-end torque and boosted power output by the Europeans, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo is the first to feature Hyundai's 1.6-litre GDI engine with a high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharger. This new T-GDI unit generates 186PS and 270Nm of torque and in non-turbocharged form, the Veloster offers 140PS and 167Nm.

The new Veloster Turbo accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds (manual) against 9.7 seconds (manual) in the previous one. Hyundai claims an estimated fuel economy of 10kmpl in the city and 13kmpl on the highway for manual transmission models.

The Turbo is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission developed in-house by Hyundai – featuring a wider gear ratio spread to handle the additional torque output.

Enhancing its already stunning looks are unique front and rear bumpers and fog lights, redesigned rear spoiler and grille, new 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts, projection headlights with unique LED headlight accents and unique LED taillights.

With all its practicality, the Hyundai Veloster will slot in between hatchbacks and station wagons to offer convenience of both worlds. Prices of the Veloster will be announced during launch though Hyundai is unlikely to roll it out in India in the near future.
