Rahil Noorani makes Sirocco Cup debut

Last year’s Volkswagen Polo R Cup India champion, Rahil Noorani made his Sirocco Cup debut this weekend at Nurburgring, Germany. Volkswagen Motorsport India has provided Mumbai lad Rahil Noorani, Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2013 Champion, an opportunity to compete in the Scirocco R-Cup in Germany as a guest driver, thus offering him the exposure to international racing.

The Indian racer couldn’t quite post respectable time in the wet practice session, but his time improved in qualifying. Posting a fastest laptime of 1:44:417 minutes he secured 20th place on the grid. That said, he was just 2.76 seconds behind championship leader Jordan Lee Pepper. 

Commenting after the qualifying, Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport said, "Rahil has arrived at the Scirocco R-Cup with the right attitude. He will have to adapt to the faster and more reactive car apart from learning on a new track all together. If Rahil continues his learning, I am sure he will put up an even better performance in the races."

Race 1 saw Rahil gain four places to take the chequered flag in 16th place. Race 2 proved to be slightly more fruitful with him finishing in a respectable 12th place. 

Pepper took second place in Race 1 and top honours in Race 2 to seal the championship with one round to spare. The season finale will take place at Hockenheim from 17-19 October.
