Hyundai Motorsports has officially announced its driver lineup and revealed the livery of its i20 WRC at a press conference in Alzenau, Germany

Thierry Neuville

Following the announcement of Thierry Neuville and Juho Hanninen Hyundai Motorsports has also signed Dani Sordo and Chris Atkinson as part of the four driver lineup of the ‘Hyundai Shell World Rally Team’. Soon after signing up Neuville as their lead driver, Hyundai Motorsports has chosen to share its second car among three drivers – Juho Hanninen, Dani Sordo and Chris Atkinson. In fact, Sordo was already in talks for a role in the team for 2013, but finally joins after spending a season behind the wheel of a Citroen. Sordo, who grabbed hid career’s first rally win earlier this year in Germany, will make his debut with the Korean make in Monte Carlo next month.

Meanwhile, Juho Hanninen who has exhaustively tested the i20 WRC for more than 3500km will make his first appearance in the second rally of the season in Sweden. The Finn was the first driver to be recruited by the team after it made the announcement to return to the sport. 34-year old, Chris Atkinson is the most experienced driver in the Hyundai Motorsport lineup with 75 WRC starts against his name but has been out of action since his sixth place finish in Mexico last season. The four driver lineup of the Hyundai Motorsport team surely looks quite promising as far as the profile of each driver is concerned but will it be able to challenge the reigning champions – the Volkswagen Motorsport team with Sebastien Ogier behind the wheel of the proven Polo R WRC? Only time can tell.
