Hyundai i20 Coupe sketch

Size is a relative measurement in the car industry. If the Hyundai Elite i20 is a large premium hatchback here, it somewhat fits into the midstream hatchback segment in Europe. Recently Hyundai revealed the new i20 for Europe that is slightly larger and gets a plusher interior and a few extras features too. Now Hyundai has revealed a sketch of the i20 Coupe which is based on this European i20 hatchback. The Coupe is a 3-door that according to reports enters a European market that is shrinking for this type and size of car.

The i20 coupe sports a sharply raked roofline, a roof mounted spoiler, shorter overhangs and muscular rear haunches. Unlike the hatchback, the blackened rear panel to give the impression of a floating C-pillar will not feature on the Coupe. The i20 Coupe was designed and developed at Hyundai Motor's Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany and will most probably be built at the Izmit plant in Turkey alongside the 5-door hatchback for the European market. This new-gen i20 will not be imported from India for Europe.

Hyundai will reveal the i20 Coupe at the Paris Motor Show next month. The company hasn’t revealed much about the car but we expect engines from the i20 hatchback to be carried over. Owing to its sporty credentials, Hyundai should also offer a more powerful petrol unit than the range topping 100PS 1.4-litre engine on offer in Europe. The i20 Coupe will take on the VW Polo, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa hatchbacks in 3-door form. These however aren’t in a coupe form with the steeply raked roofline and sloping rear end.
