Hyundai's new compact SUV will be launched in early 2015

Hyundai ix25 compact SUV spied testing in India

The Hyundai ix25 compact SUV made its official global debut a few months ago at the Beijing Motor Show and is expected to make its India debut in early 2015. Although details of the India version are quite limited, the ix25 has been spotted testing alongside its biggest rivals, the Ford Ecosport and the Renault Duster recently.

Hyundai ix25 compact SUV borrows most of its styling cues from the current generation Hyundai ix35. The new SUV features a design based on the brand’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy which is slightly toned down from the likes of the Verna and the Elantra. The ix25 will not meet the sub-4 meter category with its 4,270mm length, 1,780mm width and 1,630mm height with an impressive wheelbase of 2,590mm.

The ix25 will feature sweptback headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a hexagonal shaped chrome grille, while its large bumper features aggressive lower front air-intakes, a set of fog lamps and a silver skid plate. The side profile is designed to appear large, while the rear-end gets wrap-around taillights, a spoiler with integrated brake lights and a large rear bumper with two inserts.

Expect the interiors to give out a sense of premium look and touch as has been the case with the likes of the Xcent and the i20 recently. The Hyundai ix25 will be equipped with both a petrol and a diesel engine. Both engines will be carried over from the new i20 since the ix25 is based on the same platform as the i20.  The petrol will be a 83PS, 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol while the diesel will be a 90PS, 1.4-litre unit. The petrol will be most probably mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the diesel gets a 6-speed manual.

Hyundai has plans to launch its ix25 in the first half of 2014. As seen in the picture above, the ix25 will go up against the Ford Ecosport, the Renault Duster and the likes of the upcoming Maruti XA Alpha, and the upcoming Mahindra compact SUV.
