Showcased for the first time at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, the all-new i30 hatchback for definitely one of the highlights of the Hyundai pavilion. Although we expected the car to be only a showcase, Hyundai has confirmed that the premium hatchback which will sit above the Hyundai Elite i20 in terms of pricing will in fact be launched in India later this year and will in fact be priced at just under Rs 10 lakh.
In foreign markets, the Hyundai i30 comes with both petrol and diesel engines in the standard form and also comes with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine which forms to the top of the line hot-hatch variant. In India, we expect the Hyundai i30 to come only with the standard 1.4-litre/1.6-litre petrol and the 1.6-litre diesel engines since the i30 is longer than the 4-meter mark and giving it a small engine will not really give it the excise benefits it needs. The petrol engines make 100PS/120PS of peak power while the diesel will be available with 110PS/136PS of peak power options. The 1.6-litre turbocharged version will get a shattering 186PS of peak power and twin exhausts.
The i30 will also be the most spacious hatchback in the country when it makes its appearance here with overall length at 4300mm and a wheelbase of 2650mm. The new i30 might also be available in a 3-door variant which will get the 186PS Turbo engine and moniker and will go up against the Volkswagen Polo GTI. The new car is expected to be launched at just under Rs 10 lakh with the top of the line diesel versions coming in at about the Rs 15 lakh mark. The Turbo on the other hand will be available at about Rs 20 lakh if and when launched.
