At the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show, Volkswagen revealed a new concept, the C Coupe GTE, that may form the basis for its future luxury sedans

Following the unveil of the Sport Coupe GTE Concept at the Geneva Motor Show last month, Volkswagen has taken the wraps of another concept that will shape the design of its future luxury sedans. The German car maker’s C Coupe GTE rides on the same Volkswagen MLB platform that underpins mid-sized luxury sedans like the Audi A6 and if it were to go into production, it will find its place between the Passat and the Phaeton.

Up front the Volkswagen C Coupe GTE Concept sports five chrome bars out of which the top and the bottom bar surround the LED dual headlights that are partly integrated into the grille and the bumper. In profile, the C Coupe GTE Concept looks stunning thanks to a sharp shoulder line, that swooping roofline and those massive alloy wheels.

On the inside the Volkswagen C Coupe GTE Concept sports a four passenger seating configuration but it takes luxury in its class to an all new level. Passengers at the back can share data with the driver with via the car’s multimedia infotainment system.

Volkswagen says Information about the manager's appointments can be transferred via a smartphone to the infotainment system. Parallel to this, the appointment list also serves to plan the navigation route for the day.

At the heart of things, the C Coupe GTE concept holds a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It has a 4 pot turbocharged petrol unit along with an electric motor with 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery. Both the units put together produce an output of 243PS and 500Nm allowing the car to touch the 100kmph marker in 8.6 seconds. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Now, Volkswagen says that the design of the C Coupe GTE Concept points towards their future designs but mainly for the Chinese market. Whether this design is carried forwards and brought to Indian shore is something that we will have to wait and watch.
