Honda is planning to bring back the Accord in its all-new hybrid avatar; the manufacturer also plans to increase the City's presence by ramping up its marketing strategy

Of late, Honda hasn’t been doing in India what it’s known to do throughout the world. In the recent past, the manufacturer has pulled some of its most popular cars in the country off the market, like the Civic and the Accord. The reason was obviously the absence of a diesel motor and the rising prices of petrol. However, it is being reported now that the Japanese manufacturer is planning to reintroduce the Accord in the Indian market.

The Accord is expected to make its way to India in its hybrid version, in an attempt to play ball with the Toyota Camry Hybrid, and to lift Honda’s image as a whole. The company also plans to revamp its marketing campaign in order to boost the City’s presence and counter rising competition.

Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice-President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India (HCIL) said, “Our next plan is to reintroduce our flagship brand Honda Accord. The hybrid sedan will be launched in September or October. Because, this is the one segment we have been absent for the past two-three years after holding a strong position for many years. We will be back there”.

“It is a very advanced hybrid vehicle and it also will be a very stylish, luxurious and spacious car,” he further added. “The company is hopeful of strong customer adoption level for the hybrid cars in India”.

“Honda was the first company to launch a hybrid. We introduced Civic Hybrid in 2008. People were willing to adopt new technologies even then. We expect to bring back some momentum in the segment with the new Accord,” he added.

Speaking of Honda’s current operation in India, the BR-V is the latest addition to the manufacturer’s arsenal. Meanwhile, sitting pretty at the top of its Indian food chain is the CR-V.
