A new range of VTECs were unveiled by Honda that will get both direct injection and turbo charging. The three engines to feature these technologies will be the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder and the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mills. The 2.0 motor will have a maximum output of over 280 HP and is Euro 6 compliant.
The 1.0 and 1.5 litre motors combine a base engine with a newly designed framework according to Honda and the VVT system has reduced friction and a turbocharger with low moment of inertia. Direct injection technology will help these motors achieve a good balance between power and torque which will be higher than naturally aspirated engines without compromising on fuel economy. India is finally witnessing downsized engines with the Ford EcoBoost and the Volkswagen TSI engines making it to our shores. We expect Honda to act sooner on this front than it did with bringing diesel engines to India.
