Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has announced the recall of 57,676 vehicles sold in India to replace faulty airbag inflators. The preventive recall camp is a part of the global exercise that has been implemented by the Japanese brand due to the faulty products supplied by Takata Corporation. The service measure will undergo the replacement of the driver-side airbag pertaining to the previous generation models of the City, Jazz and the Civic.
Out of the 57,676 Honda cars, the major chunk consist of 49,572 units of the City manufactured between January 2012 and June 2013. In the same way, 7,504 units of the Jazz manufactured from February 2012 till February 2013 and 600 units of the Civic built between January 2012 and August 2012 will be recalled by the manufacturer.
"The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner, starting from February 20, 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly," mentioned HCIL in a statement.
Previously Honda India has declared a massive recall of close to 2.24 lakh units of the vehicles in September 2015 which consisted of City, Jazz, Civic, and CR-V. This recall was again concerning to faulty airbag inflators installed in the above mentioned vehicle manufactured between 2013 and 2012. Also, recently the manufacturer had recalled 90,210 units of the City and Mobilio with reference to a faulty diesel fuel line which would come off thus stalling the engine. This recall was announced by Honda for both models manufactured from December 2013 to July 2015.
Existing Honda customer can cross-check whether their vehicle belongs to the affected batch by submitting the 17-digit alpha-numeric VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the special tab provided on the brands’ website.
