Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC) has filed a recall notice on approximately 1,26,000 of its popular Gold Wing touring motorcycles with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall is being done because of issues with the secondary master cylinder which may cause the rear brake of the Honda Gold Wing to drag after the brakes have been released.

Honda’s recall affects GL1800 bikes built between 2001 and 2010 and 2012, and also affects GL1800A bikes built between 2001 and 2005. Honda says dragging the rear brake could cause a crash, and the added heat generation could cause a fire, so the need for this recall.

Honda will be sending out a “preliminary letter” to owners with instructions how to conduct pre-ride and post-ride inspections so they can identify the condition. A second notification will also be sent when a remedy is available from Honda.

It is to be noted that motorcycles that were remedied under an earlier recall (11V-567) in December 2011, for rear brake drag will have to be inspected and remedied again under the latest recall campaign.
