With 9,000 units sold pan India, the Honda Jazz seems to have managed a respectable score on the sales charts in a month's time

2015 Honda Jazz

The Honda Jazz has always been a car that one can't simply ignore when looking for a premium hatchback. Although the older version didn't quite hit the high note on the sales charts mainly for the pricing, the recently launched 2015 iteration has already started tasting some success. Within a month since its launch, Honda has already sold more than 9,000 units of the Jazz.

Even in the older avatar, the Jazz had always been a car that is big on space and came with a reliable Honda engine. But the absence of a diesel mill and of course the price really set it back with respect to its competition. But this time round, the big H has brought in not just a diesel offering but also an automatic variant in petrol. Talking about automatics, Honda claims that the CVT variant claims almost 25 per cent of the total demand for petrol offerings.

The 2015 Honda Jazz comes with two engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol Jazz makes 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque. The diesel Counterpart makes 100PS and 200Nm. For the petrol variant Honda claims an efficiency north of 18kmpl while the diesel trim gets an ARAI approved 27.3kmpl.

With 6,676 units sold in the month of July 2015, the Jazz became the single largest contributor to the 18 per cent growth that Honda recorded in that month. But the question is, are these numbers just an initial boost? Can it survive the test of time against some stiff competition from the Hyundai Elite i20 and the soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki YRA? Only time will tell.
