Hyundai Motor India has delivered one lakh units of the Grand i10 since its launch in September 2013. Achieving the milestone in less than 10 months, the hatchback averages about 10,000 units every month. Hyundai says that the company is working on increasing production capacity to cope with the demand for this hatchback.
The Grand i10 was our car of the year last year and for good measure. Hyundai India has finally managed to produce a car that drives as well as it looks. The Grand i10 rides and handles better than Hyundais of the past, it’s got a smooth 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine under the hood and the three pot diesel is very efficient for the value conscious customers in this segment. Clubbing traditional Hyundai traits like an attractive design and a long list of features at an affordable price makes the Grand i10 a tough car to resist in the hatchback segment.
Now that Hyundai has the Xcent with the same qualities of the Grand i10 and with a big boot and a few more features, the platform is turning out to be a huge success for Hyundai. Sales are looking up despite the Verna facing stiff competition from the Honda City and the next generation i20 is coming soon. The Hyundai ix25 compact SUV is coming next year to build on the strong line of products from the Hyundai stable. It is based on the i20 platform so Hyundai will benefit from the economies of scale.
