Honda creates history by selling over 10 lakh Activas in first five months

Honda has all the right reasons to rejoice. The two-wheeler manufacturer has set a new record of selling over 10 lakh units of its popular scooter Activa during the first five months of the current fiscal. This achievement of Honda comes at a time when the overall sales in the two-wheeler industry have been sluggish for several months.

Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, is of the opinion that the over 10 lakh sales mark has made the Activa the largest selling two-wheeler in the country. He further states that the Activa volume has grown 20 times that of the two-wheeler industry.

While Honda has registered impressive sales numbers for Activa, its competitor Hero Motorcycles has seen a dip in its sales, as the rural markets which are a sales pitch for the two-wheeler manufacturer have been in distress due to poor rains and lower realisation from farm produce.

Honda states that the Activa sales numbers spiked by a 35-40 per cent in volumes during the festive season that began with Onam in Kerala. The company, however, points out that the rising numbers are not driven by any festive offers from the company, except some special finance schemes.

The 125cc variant from the Activa platform remains the highest selling model. The two-wheeler manufacturer states though this model is being marketed as a family scooter, as many as one-third of its users are women.

With the sales of 10 lakh units of the Activa Honda states that it has secured its No 1 position for three consecutive years in a row. The company has sold a good 2.17 lakh units of the Activa in August and cumulatively sold more than 1.7 lakh units more in the five-months period.
