No Citys will be made in August as the carmaker rejigs production

Honda City production shifted to Tapukara

Just two days after we told you about the constraints at Honda’s Greater Noida plant leading to no production of the Brio in July, the company informs us that the Honda City that was being manufactured at this plant will be shifted to their second facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. This process will take a month and during this time, there will be no production of the City. So expect a temporary drop in sales from Honda this month.

Initial response for the Mobilio is high and being a new car, sales momentum is everything for long term success. So Honda wants to continue producing the Mobilio at Greater Noida while the City will begin production at Tapukara in the first week of September. Speaking on this development, Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales Honda Cars India, said “The shift of City production to Tapukara will ensure better availability and timely deliveries of Honda City and the newly launched Mobilio. We have received an overwhelming response to both the City and the Mobilio, and it is necessary to maximise production at both the plants for the benefit of the customer.”

The Honda City has sold over 53,000 units since its launch in January and continues to be the segment’s best seller. The Mobilio too has received over 10,000 bookings since its launch and sold 3,365 units in its first month.

The shift in production also eases up time to produce the Brio at the Greater Noida plant and better utilization of the Tapukara plant that’s running on a single shift right now. The Amaze is the other model manufactured at the Tapukara facility.
