Goodwood has officially launched its ‘Brighton Pier’ installation at the Motor Circuit, marking 50 years since the beginning of the bitter rivalry between Mods and Rockers in many British seaside towns during the summer of 1964. This installation is one of several period reproductions that will make this year’s Goodwood Revival the biggest yet.

The Mods and Rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the early to mid-1960s. The Rockers were focussed on motorcycles, including café racers of the era and generally wore protective clothing such as black leather jackets and motorcycle boots. The Mods on the other hand, were centred on fashion and music of the times and rode scooters, including Vespas and Lambrettas of the time.

The Goodwood Revival celebrates the glory days of motor racing at the Goodwood circuit, with all the accompanying spectacle and glamour of the era. Both competitors and spectators dress in period fashions with sights and entertainment of the pre-1966 era for all to enjoy.

This year, Royal Enfield is also participating at the revival, showcasing its full new range of accessories line inspired by the dispatch riders of WWII. Between 1948 and 1966, Goodwood hosted contemporary racing of all kinds, including Formula One, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and the celebrated Tourist Trophy sports car race. During its active years, the circuit ranked alongside Silverstone as Britain’s leading racing venue.

The restored Goodwood Circuit is unchanged from the way it was during its heydays and no modern vehicles are allowed within the circuit perimeter throughout the weekend, except modern race fire and safety vehicles.
