At the KTM RC 390 and RC 200 launch in India a few months back, KTM chief, Stefan Pierer, had announced that they are working on a no-nonsense adventure bike that will be launched in India soon. True to his word, KTM unveiled the 1050 Adventure at the 2014 EICMA motorcycle show in Mila, Italy. The KTM 1050 Adventure will be an entry-level offering in the adventure range of motorcycles. Powering the bike is a 1,050cc V-twin motor churning out 96PS of peak power. The power output has been restricted to make the bike eligible for A2 license holders in the European market.
Though, the KTM 1050 Adventure is an entry-level offering, KTM have been generous on the motorcycle as it features goodies such as ride-by-wire throttle, three ride modes (Sport, Street, Rain), traction control, a slipper clutch and ABS. Other novel feature on the KTM 1050 Adventure is the fact the windscreen, handlebars, and foot pegs are all adjustable. Suspension duties are taken care of by 43mm USD forks at front and adjustable mono-shock at the back sourced from WP. Braking is done by Brembo disc brakes at front and rear while the bike runs on 19-inch wheels at front and 17-inch wheels at rear. Saddle height is pretty tall at 851mm whereas the KTM 1050 Adventure has a generous fuel tank capacity of 23 litres. The bike tips the scale at 212kg.
The KTM 1050 Adventure will head to our market via the CKD route which should enable KTM to price the motorcycle aggressively. The KTM 1050 Adventure has been priced at Rs 10 lakh in the European market and it should retail for around Rs 13 lakh when it hits the showrooms in our country by the first half of 2015. The KTM 1050 Adventure will be the first twin-cylinder KTM offering to be sold in our market and the first bike to cross the litre-class displacement.
