With the economic recession hitting the European region sales of higher displacement motorcycles have declined in the recent past. Owing to this factor consumers in European market are looking at low-displacement performance motorcycles that are considerably frugal and offer decent performance also. At the same time in the Asian market consumers are warming up to entry-level performance motorcycles, and owing to this fact demand for motorcycles between 200 to 400cc have gone up in the recent past. Honda has been present in this segment with the CBR 250R and the recently launched CBR 300R but both these offerings haven’t been able to compete against the likes of the more performance focused Kawasaki Ninja 300, Yamaha R3 and the KTM RC 390 in the international markets.

It seems the Japanese two-wheeler has taken note of this situation and for this purpose will be riding in a new motorcycle at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Honda has unveiled its Light Weight Super Sport concept motorcycle which will be unveiled at the show. It is most likely that the production motorcycle will be christened Honda CBR 250RR. The new motorcycle will be performance oriented unlike the sports tourer DNA of the CBR 250R and CBR 300R. From the pictures it is clear that the new Honda CBR 250RR will employ an aggressive design language with sharp body lines, sculpted fuel tank and chiselled tail section. It also sports conventional single side exhaust muffler that goes well with the overall design. The chassis has been tuned for better handling dynamics. The clip-on handle bars and rear-set footpegs should result in an aggressive and sporty riding posture. Suspension duties are handled by USD front forks and a monoshock unit at the back. Anchorage is provided by petal disc brake at front and rear. Details regarding the powerplant is scarce but expect it to be powered by a high revving, 250cc parallel twin motor with a power output of around 35 to 38PS. Zigwheels will be present at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show scheduled later this month, watch this space for more updates.
