Production to be stabilised with deliveries of the new Honda City beginning January 2012

The floods that wreaked havoc and caused considerable damage to property in Thailand during mid 2011 is still hampering Honda’s car sales in India. Production and supply of components for Honda cars have taken a hit and the domino effect is being felt here in India with Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) facing a parts crunch for manufacturing and selling their cars.

Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Marketing & Sales, HSCI said “Our production for the December month was curtailed due to the recent impact of the Thailand floods. As a result of our efforts towards recovery, we will start stabilising the production of the newly launched City from this month and will begin its deliveries”.

The facelifted Honda City was launched mid December 2011 in four variants namely, Corporate, E, S, V. The V trim version is available in automatic transmission as well, with sunroof as an option. Prices start at Rs.6.99 lakhs, ex-showrrom Delhi. Safety features on the car include ABS with Brake Assist, Dual SRS Airbags, and G-CON. The new Honda City now also has Cruise Control on select models.

Coming back to sales, HSCI sold just 1,072 cars during December 2011 in India compared to 5,135 units in December 2010 - a drop of 20.82%. Of the 1,072 cars, the Honda City accounted for 600 units while the Honda Jazz comprised 296 units.

Here's the model-wise sales break-up of HSCI for December 2011:
