Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) added another feather to its cap as the Activa became the largest selling two-wheeler for the month of March. The Activa overtook the Hero Splendor, which has been for many years the highest selling two-wheeler in terms of monthly sales. Though, it isn’t the first time that the Honda Activa has achieved this feat in September 2013 and this means the Activa has overtaken the Splendor twice in the financial year 2013-14.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as demands for scooters have risen quite dramatically in the past few years. The Honda Activa being the leader in the scooter segment with close to 50 per cent market share it was certain to reap the benefit in terms of volumes. Honda registered sale of 1,79,956 units for the Activa which is nearly 13,000 units more than what the Hero Splendor managed. Another interesting statistic is the percentage growth for Activa, as sales of it grew by a humungous 65 per cent from March 2013 to March 2014.
Speaking on this occasion, Yadvinder S. Guleria- Vice President, Sales & Marketing, HMSI said, “We are excited that Honda Activa has once again become the highest selling two-wheeler of India in March’14 after Sept’13. This clearly indicates that Activa is exponentially getting acceptance as the most preferred choice of two-wheeler for commuting in the country. We are proud to share that Activa is now strongly making inroads in Tier-2 towns and beyond. Every month lakhs of Indian families are choosing Activa over any other 2Wheeler. The success of revolutionary HET in our automatic scooters is further reaffirming Honda as the technology and mileage leader in automatic scooter segment.”
Apart from being a very competent product, one of the main reasons for the success of Activa is that Honda has updated the scooter with both cosmetic and technical updates on a regular basis. The Honda Activa was updated with a new HET engine in 2013 and also a new female oriented scooter - Activa-i was also launched in the same year. Honda is all-set to further expand the Activa family as it plans to launch the Activa 125 on March 28 which should further boost its sales.
