Honda Activa maintains its lead as highest selling two-wheeler in India

July turned out to be yet another fruitful month for Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Private Limited (HMSI). The Popular Honda Activa emerged as the highest selling two-wheeler in the country for the month of July, 2015. It is the second consecutive month that the Honda Activa has ruled the roost as it had displaced the Hero Splendor from the top position in June, 2015. Apart from emerging as the highest selling two-wheeler last month, the Honda Activa also became the first automatic scooter in India to record cumulative sales of more than 1 crore units! 

The Honda Activa sold 2,25,704 units in the month of July,2015 as opposed to the 1,77,016 units of the Hero Splendor thereby taking the crown by a massive advantage of 48,688 units. Sales for the Honda Activa automatic scooter range has increased in a steady rate. The growth for the Honda Activa can be gauged from the fact that it sold 28,791 units more in July than its preceding month which is a stupendous growth of almost 13 per cent. Honda also became the first manufacturer in India to sell more than 2.5 lakh scooter units in a single month in July, 2015. Such has been the domination of the Honda Activa that every second scooter customer in India rides the Activa! Things only look positive for the Japanese two-wheeler henceforth as it is currently building the world’s largest scooter plant in Gujarat which is expected to be operational by end of 2015. Once the new plant is operational, expect the Honda Activa to regularly top sales charts and sales of over 2.5 lakh units in a single month just for the Activa can’t be ruled out. On the other hand Hero MotoCorp officials should be a worried lot. Its bread and butter offering and the highest selling two-wheeler in the country, the Hero Splendor managed sales of 1,77,016 units last month. The above figure means that sales for the Hero Splendor have slid by 18,092 units in a single month or a decline of almost 9 per cent.
