Aprilia Caponord 1200, Shiver 750 recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for certain Aprilia Shiver 750 and Caponord 1200 motorcycles due to a defect with the output fear shaft face.

According to the report filed with the NHTSA, the output gear shaft face may have been improperly machined, which can cause the fastening screw on the sprocket to loosen and potentially lock up the rear wheel, even causing a crash.

Aprilia has filed for the recall on the affected units, starting January 2015. The affected units include 2014-2015 Shiver 750s manufactured from February 10, 2014 to October 28, 2014 and 2014-2015 Caponord 1200 motorcycles manufactured from November 14, 2013 to October 16, 2014.

Aprilia says there has been no reported cases of accidents, injuries or fatalities related to the issue. Owners of affected models will be contacted by mail and asked to take the motorcycles to an authorized Aprilia dealer, who will check the components and if necessary, repair, free of charge.
