Yamaha Drivers Safety Training programme press conference

To create awareness for safety among truck drivers India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd initiated the Yamaha Drivers Safety Training program (YDST). As part of YDST, Yamaha trained 800 truck drivers from 34 national transporters over the last 20 months to improve their safe driving skills. According to Yamaha the programme has been started to make Indian roads safer by imparting safe driving skills to truck drivers. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer also claims that YDST has resulted in reducing the accident ratio of trucks by three times while transporting its motorcycles and scooters from the factory to dealers across the country.

For this purpose, Yamaha has joined hands with Chola MS Risk Services to run the YDST. As part of YDST programme, the drivers had to undergo various practical as well as classroom training sessions that were held by road safety experts. Special attention was given to stress management for which various workshops were held and driving skill testing games were integrated into the programme to improve the mental alertness of the drivers. Since the drivers have to face varying weather conditions, they were trained to tackle harsh weather conditions like heavy rains or fog safely.

Elaborating on the social initiative, Om Prakash, Group Head – Corporate, India Yamaha Motor, said, “Road safety has always been one of the strategic focus areas for IYM’s CSR initiatives. We have been running number of programs to promote safe riding among two wheeler riders. The special Yamaha Drivers Safety Training program is targeted towards the drivers of various transporters who carry our vehicles from our production plant to dealers across the country. YDST aims to reduce accidents on highways caused by unsafe truck driving and make the roads safer for the truckers as well as the fellow users of the roads. The program has made us achieve drastic reduction in accident ratio of the fleet of trucks carrying our vehicles over last two years.”
