Mercedes-AMG and MV Agusta

In a surprise declaration, MV Agusta announced that Mercedes-AMG has acquired 25 per cent stake in the Italian bikemaker. Rumours about this have been going on for a long time and it was speculated that the acquisition would be announced at the 2014 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy scheduled in the first week of November, 2014. The partnership between MV Agusta and Mercedes-AMG also include marketing and sales.

Also Mercedes-AMG will appoint one member of MV Agusta’s board of directors. But the Italian bikemaker has also mentioned in the press release that the partnership is still subject to the approval of the relevant authorities, which is expected to be granted in late November. AMG has in the past associated with Ducati to release a limited run of AMG edition Diavel before the iconic Italian bikemaker was acquired by rival Audi. It is still unknown how for how much money did MV Agusta sold it 25 per cent stake to Mercedes-AMG. More details about this partnership will be released at the 2014 EICMA show where a formal announcement is expected.

Giovanni Castiglioni, President and CEO of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., commented: “MV Agusta and Mercedes-AMG are a perfect brand fit: Two complementary companies that stand for design, high performance and excellence. Mercedes-AMG will help MV Agusta to further expand globally and to accelerate our growth. The uniqueness of MV Agusta will further enhance Mercedes-AMG’s leadership in the high-performance segment.”
