Maruti resumes production in Gurgaon and Manesar

Maruti Suzuki resumed production at its Haryana manufacturing plant duo on Tuesday. Manufacturing was temporarily suspended at these plants for two days following the violence and disruption caused by the Haryana Jat agitation. “Maruti Suzuki has resumed production of vehicles at its facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar, starting Tuesday (second half). The supply of components has started gradually,” the Indian carmaker said in a statement.

Production processes were stalled at Maruti’s Gurgaon and Manesar plants on Saturday afternoon as it suffered substantial setbacks. The agitation in Rohtak and nearby areas had disrupted supplies of certain components to the two plants.

The combined output from the Gurgaon and Manesar plants is currently about 5,000 vehicles per day. Consequently, the carmaker is likely to have incurred a production loss of at least 10,000 vehicles and will be working towards making good the loss over the near term.

While the Gurgaon plant has an annual production capacity of 7,00,000 cars from three assembly facilities, the Manesar plant can produce 8,00,000 units from similar number of assembly facilities.

Maruti Suzuki featured close to half a dozen cars in the list of top 10 selling passenger cars in India for January 2016, despite a dip in the sales of several of its models. Still the number one manufacturer in India, the company has a 46.91 percent market share of the passenger vehicle market in India.
