KTM showcased the new RC250 and 250 Duke motorcycles at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. The KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke will be powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder motor and will go sale by June in the Japanese two-wheeler market

KTM RC250

Austrian bikemaker KTM surprised everyone by revealing two new 250cc motorcycles. The bikes to be unveiled are the KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke. Both the new KTM motorcycles made their debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. The highlight of the KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke is its new powerplant. Instead of a bored-out 200cc motor, the new 250cc mill is a scaled-down version of the 375cc engine that is seen on the KTM RC390 and KTM 390 Duke. The 250cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor churns out 31PS at 9,000rpm and 24Nm of peak torque at 7,250rpm. This makes the 375cc KTM offering about 12.5PS and 11Nm more powerful than the new KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke. The 250cc powerplant will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox as found on other KTM motorcycles.

KTM 250 Duke

Aesthetically the KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke remain untouched and will continue to ape the design language adopted by the KTM RC and Duke offerings of a supersports and street naked respectively. The KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke adopts the standard trellis frame while the 43mm USD forks at front and monoshock setup at the rear has been carried forward from the KTM 390 Duke and KTM RC390 as it is. Braking will be done by disc brakes at front and rear while ABS is likely to be standard and the motorcycles will run on sticky Metzeler sourced tyres. The KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke tip the scales at 147kg and 139kg respectively which are identical to the KTM 390 duo. The KTM RC250 has been priced at Rs 3.24 lakh in the Japanese two-wheeler market while the KTM 250 Duke would retail for Rs 2.87 lakh. The new 250cc KTM motorcycles will be launched in Japan by June and will be pitched squarely against the Kawasaki Ninja 250SL and the Kawasaki Z250SL. It is highly unlikely that KTM will launch the RC250 and the 250 Duke in India as the KTM 200 and the KTM 390 offerings are already priced aggressively in our market.
