Habib is BMW's new design chief

Karim Habib, currently the chief of exterior design, will be promoted to BMW's head of design
BMW has announced that Karim Habib will take over as Head of BMW Design on June 1, 2012. The 42-year-old Lebanon-born Canadian has been in charge of exterior design at the group since March 2011. He joined the company in 1998, and had a brief stint with Mercedes-Benz in 2009 before coming back to BMW in 2011.
“I feel very honoured and I look forward to this new challenge. Now I have the opportunity of working together with a great team to shape the future face of the BMW brand,” Karim Habib said. Habib will report to Adrian van Hooydonk, , Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.
Following studies in Canada and California, Karim Habib held various positions in interior and exterior design before becoming the team leader of advanced design for the company and later heading the exterior design department. Habib was responsible for the design of several important BMW models, including the Concept CS from 2007, which he worked on under the guidance of the former group design boss, Chris Bangle. He has also worked on the exterior designs of current models such as the 7 series and new 3 series. Mercedes-Benz recruited Habib in 2009, weeks after Chris Bangle had left BMW, to work on its stylish F Series of vehicles at the firm’s advanced design studio.
“Karim Habib is an outstanding designer who has had a significant impact on the design of the BMW brand over many years. His longstanding experience and subtle instinct for timely elegance and dynamics are the ideal prerequisites for this demanding task. I look forward very much to his support and collaboration,” said Adrian van Hooydonk.
