The Gulf Supercross was for the first time held in Nashik and the event saw a healthy turnaround of 96 riders from across the country

While most motorcycle riders prefer to race on tarmac, so that they can get their knee down, there is a certain breed of bikers who like to soar high and relish the dirt. For such genre of riders, a supercross event is the perfect platform to showcase their skills and it was glad tidings for motorsport enthusiasts from Nashik as the Gulf Supercross was conducted for the first time in their city. The event witnessed 96 participants from various parts of the country, who battled hard for glory. The event wassponsored by Gulf Oil & conducted by Sportscraft and held at the Kute's Supercross Track. The off-road track has been designed and built by inputs from local riders and boasts 12 steep jumps and a fantastic table top stretch which put to test even the most seasoned riders.

The star riders of the show were competitors from Bangalore K P Aravind, Harith Noah, Pramode Joshua and R Natraj, all astride TVS RTR motorcycles. In the Indian Expert Foreign Class, for motorcycles upto 500cc, Noah claimed victory after a tough battle with his teammates Aravind and Joshua, who finished in the second and third places respectively. Aravind made-up for his first race disappointment, as he grabbed the lead from Noah on the second last lap of the nine-lap race, to emerge triumphant. His winning streak didn’t end there, as after sharing the top honours with Noah in the Expert Foreign Class, he went on to win both the races in the Indian Expert Class upto 260 cc. Joshua placed second, with Natraj and S Madhu, also of TVS Racing, sharing third place in the overall standings.

In the Private Foreign motorcycles 250cc class it was Jignesh Patel hailing from Nagpur who emerged winner in both the races riding a KTM SFX. Following Patel in second and third place were Abhijitsinh Jadav of Pune (Yamaha RX 135)and Ganesh Lokhande (Honda CRF). Aurangabad’s Aakash Satpude (TVS Apache) clinched victory in the Private Expert upto 260cc class, with Narendra Singh Pawar of Indore and Shamlal Pardeshi of Pune rounding-off the podium.

One of the tightly contested races was the local class in which Ganesh Lokhande emerged victorious after a thrilling battle with Aditya Thakkar and Anish Nair, who finished second and third respectively. Kshitij Shukla hailing from Mumbai won the Novice class, with Bhopal’s Syed Asif Ali finishing second ahead of Pune’s Mohammed Faisal.The event wasn’t only restricted to big boys as there was a special kids demo class. The crowds gathered cheered the young riders as they negotiated the technical and challenging track. As the day came to an end, all the contestants were happy with the arrangements made in the inaugural event and were keen to return back to Nashik in the near future.
