Ferrari 458 Speciale A revealed

Ferrari has pulled the wraps of its new limited-edition Ferrari 458 Speciale A ahead of its world premiere at the 2014 Paris Motor Show next month. Scant to just 499 units, the Prancing Horse, calls it Aperta which means ‘open’ in Italian. The carmaker describes the Ferrari 458 Speciale A as a celebration of the dazzling success of the various versions of the Ferrari 458.

The new car features a retractable hard top that opens and closes in just 14 seconds. Thanks to its aluminum construction, the new roof has added only 50kg in comparison to the Ferrari 458 Speciale which means the vehicle has a kerb weight of 1,340kg.

The show car will be presented in a triple-layer yellow livery with a Blu Nart and Bianco Avus central stripe at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It sits on Grigio Corsa five-spoke forged wheels. Inside, the Ferrari 458 Speciale A features blue carbon fibre on the dashboard and door panels, while the seats have been wrapped around in Alcantara with 3D stitching and 3D technical fabric.

Billed as the most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari spider ever the new car is equipped with front and rear active aerodynamics, a rigid chassis that incorporates 10 aluminum alloys and Side Slip Angle Control (SSC) which guarantees a good driving experience.

Ferrari 458 Speciale A is equipped with a 4.5-litre V8 naturally-aspirated engine which churns out 605PS of power at 9,000rpm and 540Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. It does the 0-100kmph sprint in just three seconds just like the coupe while the 0-200kmph sprint takes 9.5 seconds. Ferrari hasn't said anything about the top-speed of the car, but most likely it has decreased a little bit from the coupe’s 325kmph.

The new Ferrari 458 Speciale A will be showcased at the 2014 Paris Motor Show on October 2.
