The elongated version of the SsangYong Tivoli crossover will offer more storage space for those who want to carry a lot of stuff on their trips

SsangYong Tivoli XLV

SsangYong has taken the wraps off the Tivoli XLV at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The XLV is pretty much identical to the standard Tivoli from the C-pillar forwards, but the rear is a massive 238 mm longer – giving it a huge 720 litre boot. That’s 297 litres more than the already massive 423 litre boot space on the Tivoli. At 2,600mm, the wheelbase also remains the same as the original.

Strangely, there’s no seven-seater version offered just yet, despite previewing such a model with the XLV and XLV-Air concepts – so the only benefit of the larger rear end for now is a bigger boot. That said, Ssangyong claims that three full-size adults can fit with comfort at the rear, even on long journeys, thanks to the inclination of the second row of seats at an angle of 32.5 degrees and the rear flat floor.

As with the regular Tivoli, the XLV will be offered with two engine options, a 128PS 1.6-litre petrol and a 115PS 1.6-litre diesel. Customers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual and a six-speed Aisin automatic gearbox.

More expensive versions of the Tivoli XLV will feature the company’s intelligent all-wheel drive system, which under normal road conditions sends the power to the front wheels, enabling the rear axle when necessary. Safety features include seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), ABS, an electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with hydraulic brake assist, hill-start assist and active roll-over protection (ARP), ISOFIX child seat anchors and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The Tivoli XLV wasn’t the only new car to have been revealed by Ssangyong at Geneva, however. The Korean company also unveiled its new SIV-2 concept car, which is thought to preview the next iteration of the Korando, Ssangyong’s Tiguan-sized 4x4.
