What is the current waiting period for the EON?

There isn't any defined waiting period on the EON, however in the case of certain colors or variants, the wait can extend up to a week. Hyundai claims that their dealerships offer ready delivery on basic colors.

Does the EON deliver more mileage as against competition?

If fuel efficiency is your primary concern, then the EON should figure right on top of your buying list. Hyundai claims an ARAI-approved best-in-class mileage of 21.1 kmpl. We are yet to verify this claim in our comprehensive road test, however we do expect the EON to return a rather decent mileage under our test conditions as well. Going by ARAI data, the competition isn’t too far behind. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 delivers 20.2 kmpl while the regular Alto manages 19.7 kmpl. The Chevrolet Spark, offers 18 kmpl, which is a lot lower than the Hyundai EON, however expect the figures to be closer under real world conditions.

What's the maintenance package offered on EON?

Hyundai offers a 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty whereas the Alto K10 only comes with a 2-year/40,000km warranty package.

How does the EON's equipment compare against competition?

The base D-Lite variant of the EON doesn't boast of any frills but the top of the line Sportz or Magna (O) variant comes with features like power steering, front power windows, AC, body colour bumpers, mirrors and door handles. There’s also a gear shift indicator, remote fuel lid opener, rear parcel tray, aux-in and USB port. Compared to the Hyundai EON, the top-end Alto’s equipment list is rather poor. The Alto K10 VXi however measures up quite well and includes features like front and rear power windows, power steering, AC, and remote central locking.

Does the EON have enough leg space and head room for tall occupants? What are the car's comfort features?

At 3,495mm length, the EON is shorter than the Alto K10 (3620mm) but still manages to carve out a decent space for its occupants. Thanks to its 'tall boy' stance, the inside offers an element of spaciousness that could best be compared to the likes of the Hyundai i10. In fact, at 1,550mm width and1,500mm height, the EON is wider and taller than the Alto K10. It also has a long wheelbase (2,380mm), which allows for more passenger legroom. The EON seats four adults without a fuss though five could be bit of a squeeze. At 215 litres, the boot space is also significantly larger compared to 170 litres in both the Alto K10 and the Chevrolet Spark. Contoured seats, exclusive pedestal space, unique dashboard storage, map pockets on the sides and decent floor console storage complete the comfort package

Is the EON a safer hatchback compared to the Alto and other competitors?

The EON comes with a multitude of safety features, many of them a first in the segment, like the driver's side airbag, immobiliser and central locking. It also has a reinforced body shell that can withstand impact to a great extent. The Alto, on the other hand, doesn’t offer ABS or airbags even in the top of the line VXi variant. Chevrolet, however, offers ABS and airbags on the Spark LT Option Pack.

How do you rate the EON’s engine and power?

Powering the EON is an 814cc three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 56 PS @ 5,500 rpm and a decent torque of 74.56 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Mated to a five-speed gearbox, the EON is surprisingly agile and is well suited for city driving and occasional highway jaunts. The three-cylinder engine does deliver a hint of vibration at idle, but there is no doubting the fact that it is an able performer and refined unit. Speaking of competition, the EON comes across more spirited than the Alto, but this doesn’t extend to the Alto K10 which is powered by the peppier 1-litre K-Series engine.

Is the EON value for money?

At Rs 2.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base D-Lite model, the EON is a lot cheaper than the Alto K10 and offers a lot more bang for your buck. The price is competitive even when compared against the regular Alto LX which starts at Rs 2.63 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With a modern design, upmarket interior, comprehensive equipment and phenomenal mileage, the Hyundai EON does deliver great value

What is the service interval for the EON? How much will you spend on service costs?

The EON has a service interval of 12 months/10,000 kilometres. However, the first service needs to be done after 2 months/1,500 monhs. We are yet to determine actual costs involved in servicing the EON, though expect it to be slightly higher than competition.

Does the EON come with an Automatic gearbox option?

While Hyundai models, including the i10 and Santro, come with an automatic gearbox option, the EON is, perhaps, the first hatchback from the Korean car giant to be sold without auto transmission.

Is the EON a good car for women drivers?

The EON is a car for both men and women. Having said that, it’s compact size and rich features such as power windows, gearshift and low fuel indicator, airbags, plenty of cubbyholes, etc do confer women drivers numerous advantages. The EON's small size also makes it immensely easy to nip through traffic and the tight turning radius makes parking a breeze. On the flip side, it’s not as peppy or fun to drive as, say, the Nissan Micra, but is sufficient for short highway jaunts.
