Honda India has announced an investment of Rs 380 crore in its Tapukara plant in Alwar, Rajasthan. The company aims to increase the annual production capacity of the plant from the current 1,20,000 units to 1,80,000 units. The additional capacity is scheduled to be ready by middle of the year 2016.

The expansion of this second plant will increase HCIL’s overall annual production capacity from the current 2,40,000 units to 3,00,000 units including the 1,20,000-unit capacity of the first plant in Greater Noida.

HCIL’s manufacturing plant, located in Tapukara started assembly operations in February 2014, with annual production capacity of 1,20,000 units. The plant integrates various functions including operations for forging, casting, stamping, powertrain components production, welding, painting, resin molding, engine assembly, and frame assembly as well as an engine testing facility.

With good demand to its models, including the Honda City and Honda Amaze, the company has witnessed 44 per cent growth during April 2014 to February 2015 with domestic sales registering at 1,66,366 units as against 1,15,913 units in the corresponding period of FY14.

The company’s current product portfolio in the country includes the Honda Brio, Honda Amaze, Honda Mobilio, Honda City and Honda CR-V.
