Audi brings its armoured luxury sedan, the A8L Security to the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show

2016 Audi A8L Security

If the recently launched, Mercedes-Benz S600 guard isn’t safe enough for you, then you got to turn your attention to the Audi A8L Security. The German car maker claims it to be the ‘most secure Audi ever’.

Based on the A8L, the luxury sedan is upgraded at a ‘top secret factory’ to meet the VR 9 armouring requirements. In other words, the A8L Security can resist the toughest of explosions and bullets. The current A8L security only meets the VR 7 standards but in this new version Audi has up the ante. Modifications to the armoured car include aramide fabrics, aluminium alloys and a new steel shell that is claimed to provide better protection at the same time keeping weight in check. In cars like these, the windows are the weakest link. But Audi has taken care of that too with splinter-inhibiting polycarbonate layers on the windshield and windows.

In terms of technology, the A8L security gets a built-in fire extinguisher, a fresh air supply system and an intercom to communicate in case of an emergency. Audi has fitted the A8L Security with run flat tyres in order to keep it mobile even if the rubber has been hit. Needless to say, with all the additional weight, the suspension and the all-wheel drive Quattro system had to be upgraded too.

At the heart of things, the A8L Security sports a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 that makes 435 horses. For someone looking for a bit more power, there is also a 6.0-litre W12 506PS unit available. In the international market, Audi has already commenced bookings of the Audi A8L security with deliveries expected to commence by mid-2016.
