Founder of Hamann Motorsport - Richard Hamann dies of Cancer

Race car driver, Tuner and founder of Hamann Motorsport, Richard Hamann died on 17th March after an elongated struggle from lung cancer.

his early days Richard Hamann was seen as a pilot and later in 1986 he founded Hamann Motorsport. By this day, engine tuning has become synonymous with his name. His love for cars was selfless, and tuned engines like the sound of music. As a racer, out of the 700 events he made an appearance in, he crossed the finish line in nearly 300 with 103 victories and three Touring Car trophies with a BMW M1.


Hamann Motorsport started off with tuning only German car manufactured engines (specifically BMWs) and owing to popular demand gradually it expanded to other car manufacturers. It now specializes not just in BMW but also other car makes like Lamborghini, Mercedes, Porsche, Aston martin, Mini, Ferrari, Land Rover, Maserati, Rolls Royce and more. The company deals in designing and building over the original parts, tuning engines, changing body panels to make the car look more aggressive, and modifying the tyres.

The first car upgraded by the German car tuning company was a BMW M3 producing 348PS in a 2.3l engine boosted by a turbocharger. The car could reach from standstill to 100kmph in 5.1 seconds with a top end of 273kmph. Their latest work of art is Hamann Hawk, the Hamann Guardian and the Hamann Victory II based on Mercedes SLS, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the Lamborghini Gallardo.


Richard Hamann was a craftsman, an artist and his memory will continue to prevail in all the cars he built. In the honour of Richard, the Hamann Motorsport team will go on with running the company according to the wish of the maestro himself.
