Renowned luxury car marque, Rolls Royce has recently gone on record to state that it is developing a new open-top touring model. The company prefers to call its drop-top models as ‘drophead’, and the latest drophead will be rolling in around mid-2016.
We can’t rule out the possibility of the upcoming drophead to be based on the newly launched Wraith coupe which retails for about Rs 4.6 crore. The new open-top Rolls Royce is currently undergoing pre-production prototype testing and like the Wraith, is expected to share the Roll Royce Ghost saloon platform. The soon to be launched drophead is likely to employ the same 6.6-litre V12 engine which is also sported by the Rolls Royce Wraith, where it delivers a potent 633PS powering the coupe from 0-100kmph in about 4.4 seconds. However, in all probability the new drophead will not use the ‘Wraith Drophead’ nomenclature when it is launched.
The premium British automobile manufacturer is traditionally tight-lipped about new models, and all Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls Royce, said was, “I am truly delighted to confirm today the development of our new model which will open an exciting new chapter in the great story of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.” He further added, “We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership.”
Currently, the only other drophead model sold by Rolls Royce is the Phantom Drophead Coupe and the company is aiming at introducing their second drophead model in the next couple of years.
