Karthik Tharani made optimum use of his pole position qualifying as he won the Race 1 of Round 2 of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo R cup. The race was an incident packed one as Gaurav Mehta crashed at the parabola before the last corner as his car flipped off the track and the race had to be red flagged. Gladly Mehta walked away from the shunt with minor injuries and the officials decide to restart the race after removing debris from the track.
Angad Singh Matharoo made a brilliant start to slot into second place ahead of Anindith Reddy Kunda. But Kunda fought back to reclaim his position before they crossed the finish line following Tharani. The final race results were announced after aggregate timings of all divers prior and post the restart were tallied. Anshul Manoj Shah was promoted to second place owing to this and Karminder Pal Singh took third place as Matharoo was penalised 30 seconds for overtaking under a yellow flag.
With showers of rain descending on the track it meant that the Race 2 would be an interesting affair. Bonnie Thomas made a perfect start which enabled him to pass Karminder Pal Singh for the lead in the first corner of the race itself. The duo was followed by Yatin Magu in third place. More drama unfolded on the track as the track dried up fast once the rains stopped. The competitors had opted for wet tyres but with the track drying up they found it difficult to control the car under such testing conditions.
Thomas however seemed to be in a different league as while others were struggling he was able to maintain good race pace and magnify his lead, lap after lap. Another driver who made great use of this was Singh who after dropping a few positions climbed up to second spot but the difference between Thomas was too big and he had to be content with second place finish. Finishing in third place was Yatin Magu, who was able to defend his position after a race long scuffle with from Anshul Manoj Shah.
