Ford India reports a 237 per cent sales jump in the first half of the current financial year

Ford India reported a 237 percent sales jump in the first half of the current financial year (April – September) compared to last year with total sales of 47,902 vehicles, more than triple the 14,209 sales recorded in April – September 2009.

Launched in March this year, the Ford Figo achieved a milestone of 25,000 sales in less than four months, and with the festival of Diwali around the corner, Ford expects to hit the 50,000th production mark somewhere around the same time.

The American car maker will look to capitalize on the upcoming festive season to boost its overall sales figures. The record-selling Figo along with Ford’s recently launched Automatic SUV, the Endeavour 4x2 are some of Ford’s recent launches in India, which though belonging to two entirely different genres, have generated a great deal of interest amongst car buyers in the country.

Anticipating strong demand in the months ahead, Michael Boneham, President and Managing director, Ford India, said, ''We are delighted and excited about the prospect of celebrating the 50,000th Figo milestone in the next few weeks. The Figo has been a stellar performer and we begin celebrating this milestone with the ‘Discover Smart’ campaign running through-out the festive season.”

To support the sustained sales growth, Ford India will be adding five new dealerships to its network of world-class national sales service centers and outlets over the next few weeks. When the new outlets are in operation, Ford will boast a 172 dealership network across 98 cities.
