Ford's India sales may have dropped by 2,034 units in May 2013 over the corresponding period in 2012, but the American car maker is optimistic about the Indian car market and will be launching the all-new Ford EcoSport in India later in June 2013

In May 2013, Ford India’s sales fell by 2,034 units from 6,036 units sold in May 2012 to 4,002 units. The company rightly states that the reason for the overall slowdown of the industry is due to macroeconomic factors such as high interest rates that continue to affect consumer sentiment. However, exports rose 18 per cent to 1,991 units in May 2013 from 1,693 units in May 2012.

“Despite the difficult industry situation we are confident of  the long-term potential of the Indian market, Stronger export sales are a clear sign that our One Ford plan is working with more products that consumers want and value,” said Anurag Mehrotra, Vice President, Sales, Ford India. “With our aggressive expansion plans and the introduction of exciting new global products and technologies in India, we’re reiterating our commitment to the region.”

Ford’s commitment and belief in the Indian market is going to be reinvigorated later this month with the launch of the Ford EcoSport. Ford organised the media drive for the new EcoSport in May 2013 and is very pleased about the reviews it has received from motoring publications.

“We are thrilled with the rave reviews for the EcoSport and are confident that it will be a game-changer that will strengthen our position in India,” said Mehrotra. Here's ZigWheels' take on the compact SUV: Ford EcoSport Review

The EcoSport brings to India several segment firsts, including the multi award-winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, and SYNC, the in-car connectivity and entertainment system jointly developed with Microsoft. The EcoSport will be the first vehicle in India available with Ford’s pioneering Emergency Assist System, which can automatically alert emergency services after an accident.

Ford’s efforts to keep its customer base strong included festive offers in May 2013 on cars such as the Figo and Classic on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya. In June, apart from the much awaited launch of the Ford EcoSport, the MyEndeavour alterrain campaign, a five-part adventure driving series will be aired on National Geographic Channel, featuring five individuals and their unique journeys.

Ford also recently opened a 3S facility in Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh, taking the total number of Ford dealerships to 260 sales and service outlets across 138 cities in India.

“In addition to our commitment to bringing new vehicles to India, we are focused on augmenting the customer experience and going further to increase our footprint in India,” said Mehrotra. “The 3S facility in Nalgonda brings us a step closer to our goal of having more than 500 sales and service outlets across India around mid-decade.”
