Renault has introduced a new digital gamed dubbed as Safety and Mobility for All. This game is part of an extension of the French carmaker’s own road safety program which it initiated back in 2000 with an aim to achieve the United Nations’ objective of halving road fatalities by 2020.
Designed for seven- to 12-year-olds and playable via PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones, Renault says the game can be played at home with the family, in the classroom or as part of other educational programs related to similar safety and sustainability themes.
The game involves role playing exercises which aim at teaching children to travel safely along with an introduction to the driving code which includes recognizing shapes, colours and signs; getting an understanding of traffic directions, lane safety also taking into account weather conditions.
Based around two young characters, Lea and Jules, the game focuses on the pair organising various trips where, through role-playing exercises, children playing along are introduced to real-world considerations such as road signs, directions of traffic, the driving code and weather conditions. Players also get to learn the different aspects of mobility such as car pooling, electric vehicles, renewable energies and recycling of materials.
For the year 2013-2014, a ‘Your ideas, your initiatives’ contest was also included in the program where students from 23 countries submitted their projects. Winners were chosen from three countries – India, Brazil and Bulgaria and were awarded iPads and digital cameras along with resources to carry out their initiatives for safety and mobility.
